1. What Are Cookies & Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit our platform. In addition to cookies, we also use browser localStorage and sessionStorage — technically not cookies, but used for similar purposes (keeping you logged in, remembering your cookie-consent choice, and stitching your page views into one session).

2. Categories of Cookies We Use

2.1 Strictly Necessary (always active — cannot be disabled)

• Authentication tokens (access_token, refresh_token): httpOnly cookies set by the server that keep you securely logged in. Not accessible to JavaScript.
• Cookie-consent preference (localStorage gg_cookie_consent): stores your Accept / Deny choice so we don't ask you again.
• Payment gateway cookies: when you open the milestone-funding modal, Razorpay loads its own cookies to secure the transaction. These are set directly by Razorpay and governed by their privacy policy.

2.2 Analytics / Activity Tracking (enabled only if you click "Accept")

When you accept, we record the following information for every page you visit on GigsGenius. All of this is stored first-party in our own database — we do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, or any other third-party tracker.

• Page URL — e.g. /pricing or /contracts/abc123
• Referrer — the previous URL that brought you here (Google, LinkedIn, direct, etc.)
• User agent — your browser and operating system string (e.g. Chrome 125 on Windows 11)
• Session id — a random string stored in sessionStorage that groups multiple page views from the same visit
• Your user id, name and role — only if you are logged in; anonymous otherwise
• Timestamp in UTC
• Consent state — accepted, denied, or pending

We use this data to measure funnel conversion, understand which features are used most, detect and troubleshoot issues, and improve the platform. We do not capture your IP address, page content, chat messages, form values, keystrokes, mouse movements, or payment card details in this pipeline.

3. What Happens if You Click "Deny"

All the Analytics / Activity Tracking listed in Section 2.2 is completely disabled. Your session id is deleted, and no further page-view events are sent to our servers. The platform continues to work identically — you can still log in, browse, chat, fund milestones, and receive payouts. You simply become invisible to our internal analytics.

The Strictly Necessary cookies in Section 2.1 remain active regardless of your choice — this is legally permitted because they are required for the site to function.

4. Data Retention & Access

Activity data is retained for up to 24 months to support product analytics and dispute investigation. You may request a copy or deletion of all data associated with your account at any time by emailing support@gigsgenius.com.

5. Changing Your Choice

To change your consent choice after the banner has been dismissed, you can clear your browser's site data for gigsgenius.com — the consent banner will re-appear on your next visit.
